Man Factory & Sensitivity Boosters - Boyfriend Split (New CD)
Man Factory was conceived in March 2004 when future bass player Skylar Strauss came up with the band ’s moniker as part of a joke around a campfire on future guitar player Miami White’s back porch. In June 2004, the band met for the first time as a 5 piece, adding drummer Mandrake Alibaster and keyboardist Dooky Brown to the mix for their first show at a co-op house on the UT campus in Austin, TX. The band enjoyed minimal success, however, since the keg was outside in the backyard and they were not. At this first show, they met the Sensitivity Boosters, an Emo Hip Hop collective from Seattle, and the two groups became fast friends. Over the course of the next year, Man Factory played clubs and house parties a round Texas, teaming up with the Boosters again when they came through town. By December the band was ready to release 12 new tracks and did so by posting them for free legal download on their website at manfactory.net. Man Factory’s four songs on the Boyfriend Split represent the culmination of these collected demo tapes stunningly re-recorded and mastered. The Sensitivity Boosters have amassed a loyal global Internet following as unique as their music. Emo C, B-Money and Drrty Byl began sharing emo poetry with eachother at the original Starbucks in 2001. Teaming up with Tacoma-based producer DJ Sloppy Sekonds and rapper Mik Mak, SB set the stage for a revolution. It was at this point they began reciting bittersweet tales of lost love and adolescent anguish over bass-heavy beats. Adding the mysterious “G-MO ” to the lineup in early 2001, SB sporadically began performing solo and sometimes full shows everyw here from Tokyo to Texas . In 2003 Mik Mak and Drrty Byl relocated to Texas. The group has released numerous limited edition EPs and mixtapes since their debut album, including the critically acclaimed 2005 “Suicide Pact” which introduced Denton, TX-based slam poet and mathematician “Big Red ” to the mix. Abandoning their bedroom label Geriatrix, the Boosters collective became a staple Boyfriend act in spring 2005. SB ’s contribution to the Boyfriend Split is a collection of hits and remixes from limited edition EPs released over the past three years.
